ASEAN member states are working towards a standardized electric vehicle (EV) policy to accelerate the region’s transition to clean energy and strengthen sustainability initiatives.
Investment, Trade, and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz revealed that discussions are already underway among senior officials and leaders, focusing on battery standardization and cross-border EV charging infrastructure.
“The timeline and framework will be finalized and announced during the upcoming ASEAN Summit,” he stated at the flag-off ceremony of the ASEAN Unity Drive 2025 at Menara MITI today.
Tengku Zafrul emphasized that the initiative aims to reduce range anxiety for EV users while fostering a robust and resilient regional supply chain for the automotive sector.
“A common EV policy will enable ASEAN nations to collaborate more effectively in achieving sustainability goals,” he added.
