The 7th ASEAN-China Media Week officially commenced in Bangkok, marking a significant milestone in ASEAN-China relations and celebrating 50 years of diplomatic ties between Thailand and China. The week-long event, held from June 26 to July 3, aims to deepen media cooperation, promote cultural exchange, and foster innovative partnerships across the region.
Hosted under the theme “More Silk Road Cooperation, New Chapter Communication, Innovative Media Approach,” the event is co-organized by China’s National Radio and Television Administration (NRTA), the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Government, Thailand’s Ministry of Culture, and the Thai Media Fund.
The opening ceremony at the Royal Thai Navy Convention Hall was presided over by Phonphum Wiphatphumiprathet, representing the Prime Minister of Thailand, alongside senior officials and media representatives from ASEAN and China. The cultural showcase featured traditional and modern performances, including Songs of the Silk Road, a China-ASEAN musical medley, and the documentary Li River.
“ASEAN-China Media Week is a vital platform for fostering mutual understanding and strengthening people-to-people ties through media and cultural collaboration,” said Phonphum.
Deputy Director of the NRTA, Dong Xin, emphasized the role of audiovisual media in bridging communities and driving shared prosperity. He reaffirmed China’s commitment to deepening regional cooperation through media innovation.
Thailand’s Deputy Secretary-General to the Prime Minister, Suksit Srichomkwan, highlighted the importance of cross-cultural understanding and sustainable peace, underscoring Thailand’s dedication to multidimensional collaboration in content development, skills training, and technology exchange.
Hu Fan, Vice Chairman of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, noted that ASEAN-China Media Week has already facilitated nearly 50 joint media projects and over 600 broadcast programs across 450 platforms. He also referenced President Xi Jinping’s recent ASEAN visit, which resulted in 105 bilateral agreements spanning AI, connectivity, and media cooperation.
This year’s programme includes the ASEAN-China Media Industry Cooperation Conference, ASEAN-China Film Culture Week, and the ASEAN-China Broadcast Dubbing Initiative, all operating under the sub-theme “Two Nations, One Vision.”
“These initiatives are designed to deepen people-to-people engagement and promote high-quality cooperation between ASEAN and China,” said Thanakorn Srisuksai, Manager of the Thai Media Fund.
