Malaysia is set to welcome regional and global leaders as it hosts the 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM) and related sessions from 8 to 11 July 2025 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), reaffirming its commitment to regional cooperation and diplomacy.

Foreign Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Seri Amran Mohamed Zin confirmed that preparations are complete, with logistics and substantive arrangements finalized. “We are 100% ready to hold these meetings,” he stated during a curtain-raiser briefing.

Key highlights of the AMM include:

  • Executive Committee of the Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapon-Free Zone Commission (SEANWFZ-Excom) meetings
  • Signing of the Instrument of Accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC)
  • 15th East Asia Summit Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

The AMM will also serve as a platform to mobilize cooperation on decisions made during the 46th ASEAN Summit and chart the bloc’s direction ahead of the 47th Summit in October. Discussions will extend beyond ASEAN, involving dialogue partners such as the United States, United Kingdom, and the European Union.

Datuk Seri Amran emphasized the growing significance of the TAC, which now includes 55 parties, and noted ongoing efforts to finalize participation from additional interested countries. “This is an important basic document that can be fought for together to ensure peace in the Southeast Asian region,” he said.

In a historic development, Timor-Leste is expected to be formally admitted as a full ASEAN member at the upcoming 47th Summit, marking a milestone in the bloc’s expansion.
