In a landmark move set to redefine Southeast Asia’s digital future, Malaysia has announced a strategic partnership between global AI leader NVIDIA Corporation and YTL Power International Bhd, positioning the nation as a premier hub for artificial intelligence (AI) innovation in the ASEAN region.

Backed by a RM10 billion investment, the initiative will establish cutting-edge AI data centres powered by green energy, deploy NVIDIA’s high-performance graphics processing units (GPUs), and develop Malaysia’s own sovereign large language model (LLM) — a transformative leap toward digital autonomy and national security.

“This partnership is not just about infrastructure. It’s about building an entire AI ecosystem that empowers Malaysia to lead in innovation, sustainability, and regional collaboration,” said Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry.

Green Energy Meets High-Tech Ambition

YTL Power, a subsidiary of YTL Corporation Bhd, will spearhead the physical development of the AI infrastructure. The project will integrate green energy solutions, ensuring that Malaysia’s AI growth aligns with global sustainability goals.

A Vision Realized Through Global Engagement

This milestone reflects the tangible outcomes of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s international engagements, including a pivotal meeting in December 2023 with NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang and YTL Power Managing Director Datuk Seri Yeoh Seok Hong.

“We are blessed to partner with visionary leaders to catalyze AI’s productive use across ASEAN,” said Tan Sri Francis Yeoh, Executive Chairman of YTL Corp Bhd.

Regional Leadership, Global Impact

Malaysia’s strategic neutrality, robust infrastructure, and commitment to innovation make it an ideal launchpad for ASEAN’s AI ambitions. This partnership is expected to attract global tech firms, foster local talent, and reshape the region’s economic and technological landscape.
