Malaysia is set to unveil its National Cloud Computing Policy (NCCP) at the ASEAN AI Malaysia Summit 2025 (AAIMS25), marking a pivotal step in the nation’s digital transformation and its leadership in trusted cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) adoption across Southeast Asia.
The NCCP, to be launched on 13 August by Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo, will articulate Malaysia’s strategic vision to:
- Strengthen national cloud infrastructure
- Promote secure and trusted data governance
- Accelerate cloud adoption across public and private sectors
“As a foundational enabler for AI and digital innovation, the NCCP sets the stage for a resilient, inclusive, and future-ready digital economy,” said Fabian Bigar, Secretary General of the Digital Ministry.
AAIMS25: A Regional Platform for AI Collaboration
The two-day AAIMS25 summit will commence on 12 August at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC), Kuala Lumpur, with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim expected to officiate the opening.
The summit will convene over 1,500 participants, including:
- ASEAN member states and Timor-Leste
- Dialogue partners
- AI ecosystem stakeholders, including developers, researchers, startups, and youth leaders
Five Strategic Clusters Driving the Summit
AAIMS25 will be anchored around five strategic clusters, each addressing a critical dimension of ASEAN’s AI future:
- Governance, Ethics and Trust
- Infrastructure, Cloud and Compute Sovereignty
- Sectoral Applications
- Talent Development and Workforce Transformation
- Emerging AI Frontiers — including agentic AI and system interoperability
These clusters aim to balance visionary discourse with actionable outcomes, ensuring policy innovation translates into real-world impact.
Building a Unified and Responsible AI Future
Key outcomes of AAIMS25 include:
- A joint statement by ASEAN digital ministers to align policies and foster harmonised AI governance
- Advancement of regional frameworks such as the ASEAN Guide for AI Governance and Ethics and the ASEAN Responsible AI Roadmap
- Promotion of public-private investment to democratise AI access
- Development of regional AI safety networks and innovation sandboxes
