Malaysia is set to host the 58th ASEAN Day celebration today at the Cyber Event Hall in Cyberjaya, marking a pivotal moment in the region’s journey toward inclusivity, sustainability, and shared prosperity. Themed “Towards an Inclusive and Sustainable ASEAN Future,” the event aligns with Malaysia’s 2025 ASEAN Chairmanship and underscores its leadership in shaping a people-centred regional agenda.
A Gathering of Regional Voices
Over 700 distinguished guests from across ASEAN member states are expected to attend the celebration, which will be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. His keynote address will reflect on ASEAN’s founding principles and the bloc’s evolving role in addressing regional and global challenges.
Joining him will be Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, alongside senior diplomats, cultural ambassadors, and youth representatives, reinforcing Malaysia’s commitment to multilateralism and regional solidarity.
Cultural Showcase and National Exhibitions
The celebration will feature vibrant cultural performances by PERMATA Seni, including traditional folk dances and choir renditions that highlight ASEAN’s rich cultural tapestry. Member states will also host national exhibition booths, showcasing indigenous arts, handicrafts, and merchandise, offering attendees a sensory journey through Southeast Asia’s heritage.
A Symbol of Unity and Progress
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that this year’s ASEAN Day is more than a commemoration—it is a reaffirmation of ASEAN’s collective commitment to peace, cooperation, and inclusivity. As Chair, Malaysia aims to bring ASEAN closer to its people, ensuring that regional policies resonate with grassroots aspirations.
Malaysia’s Vision as ASEAN Chair
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s address will also set the tone for Malaysia’s leadership ahead of the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur this October, where global leaders including Presidents Trump, Xi, Lula, and Ramaphosa are expected to convene. Malaysia’s Chairmanship will focus on regional security, economic resilience, and sustainable development, echoing the founding spirit of the Bangkok Declaration.
