In a landmark celebration of Southeast Asian heritage and diplomacy, six ASEAN member states have come together to host Morocco’s first-ever ASEAN Bazaar and Cultural Festival, marking a vibrant new chapter in regional cultural exchange.

Held from August 9 to 11 at the Royal Thai Embassy in Rabat, the festival commemorates the 58th anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and highlights Morocco’s growing role as a sectoral dialogue partner since 2023.

A Cultural Bridge Between Regions

Led by the Royal Thai Embassy, the event features participation from the embassies of Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Vietnam. Visitors are treated to a rich tapestry of traditional performances, authentic Southeast Asian cuisine, and handcrafted products, offering a rare opportunity to experience the diversity of ASEAN cultures in the heart of North Africa.

“This marks the symbol of friendship between Thailand and Morocco, hoping this friendship will last long and stable,” said H.E. Fabio Chinda, Thailand’s Ambassador to Morocco, during the opening ceremony.

Strengthening Bilateral Ties

The festival also underscores the deepening diplomatic and economic ties between ASEAN and Morocco. H.E. Dato’ Shahabudeen Adam Shah, Malaysia’s Ambassador to Morocco, emphasized the significance of the partnership:

“We are proud to be here and proud to have very close, cordial bilateral relations with the Kingdom of Morocco. There are many elements of cooperation we look forward to enhancing.”

A Feast for the Senses

From Thai delicacies to Filipino street food, the bazaar offers a culinary journey through Southeast Asia. Attendees can enjoy affordable dishes and explore cultural booths showcasing traditional garments, crafts, and music.

Maneevarong Chinda, spouse of the Thai Ambassador, expressed hope for continuity:

“This is the first time we’ve organized an ASEAN Cultural Food Festival here in Rabat. I hope everyone can join and enjoy today — maybe next year we can organize it again!”
