Malaysia’s tourism industry is set for a significant boost with the launch of Islamic Tourism Month (ITM) 2025, an annual initiative spearheaded by the Islamic Tourism Centre (ITC) under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC). Running throughout September 2025, the campaign aims to position Malaysia as a leading global hub for Islamic tourism, cultural exchange, and sustainable growth.

This year’s ITM theme, “Unity in Diversity, Sustainability in Tourism”, underscores Malaysia’s unique role in bridging cultures while advancing inclusive and innovative tourism offerings.

Key Highlights of ITM 2025

  • Mosque Open Day Programme – More than 150 mosques nationwide will welcome visitors for guided tours, cultural showcases, and interfaith dialogue, providing deeper insights into Malaysia’s Islamic heritage and architectural legacy.
  • Digital Engagement via TikTok Challenge – Harnessing the power of social media, ITM 2025 will launch an interactive global challenge inviting youth and travelers to share authentic Islamic tourism experiences through creative short videos.
  • Strategic Global Partnerships – Collaborations with international airlines, travel operators, and cultural institutions will expand Malaysia’s reach in key markets such as the Middle East, Central Asia, and Europe.

“Islamic Tourism Month is not only about promoting religious travel – it is about showcasing Malaysia’s inclusivity, heritage, and modernity to the world. By merging tradition with innovation, we are strengthening Malaysia’s position as a top destination for Muslim-friendly tourism while also welcoming global travelers of all backgrounds,” said ITC Director-General Datuk Dr. Mohmed Razip Hasan.

Driving Growth in Tourism and the Economy

Malaysia’s Muslim-friendly tourism and hospitality sector continues to expand, with ITM 2025 expected to contribute significantly to visitor arrivals and spending. By integrating halal gastronomy, Islamic heritage trails, wellness tourism, and eco-friendly practices, the initiative enhances Malaysia’s competitive edge in the global halal tourism market, valued at over USD 200 billion annually.

The event also strengthens Malaysia’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by promoting cultural appreciation, economic inclusivity, and responsible tourism practices.

Looking Ahead

With over 200 activities and nationwide promotions planned, ITM 2025 will serve as a platform for industry players, SMEs, and local communities to showcase products and services while fostering cross-cultural understanding.

“Through ITM 2025, we are not only inviting the world to experience Malaysia, but also shaping a new narrative of tourism that is authentic, inclusive, and sustainable,” Dr. Mohmed Razip added.
