The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the Republic of Korea (ROK) have reaffirmed their commitment to advancing their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP), signalling continued momentum in strengthening cooperation across key economic, security and socio-cultural sectors. ASEAN and the ROK have achieved substantive progress under the current Plan of Action (2021–2025), with cooperation spanning:

Expanding Cooperation into Emerging Strategic Areas

During the meeting, ASEAN and the ROK outlined enhanced collaboration in several priority and emerging sectors, including:

  • Maritime security and transnational crime, including cybersecurity and online scams
  • Trade and investment, with focus on upgrading the ASEAN–Korea Free Trade Agreement (FTA)
  • Digitalisation, aligned with the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement
  • Clean and renewable energy, including support for the ASEAN Power Grid
  • Climate action and environmental sustainability
  • Smart cities, connectivity and ageing population initiatives (ASEAN)

These areas reflect both sides’ intent to future-proof the partnership and respond to regional and global challenges through coordinated action.


Supporting ASEAN’s Long-Term Vision

The ASEAN–ROK partnership continues to align closely with broader regional frameworks, including ASEAN 2045: Our Shared Future, which aims to build a more integrated, resilient and inclusive ASEAN Community. (ASEAN)
