Thailand has reaffirmed its commitment to spearheading traditional medicine initiatives across ASEAN, as announced during the ASEAN Health Cluster 3 meeting in Brunei. The Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine (DTAM) showcased Thailand’s advancements in traditional healthcare, aligning with the ASEAN Work Plan 2021–2025.
Key Initiatives Driving Thailand’s Leadership in Traditional Medicine:
- ASEAN Traditional Medicine Policy and Practice Guideline – A comprehensive framework under development, integrating policy standards, treatment protocols, and legal regulations across ASEAN member states.
- ASEAN Conference on Traditional and Complementary Medicine – Scheduled for July 2–3 at IMPACT Muang Thong Thani, this event will foster knowledge-sharing and research collaboration on non-communicable disease treatments.
- ASEAN Traditional Medicine Standard Equivalence Project – Set for 2026–2027, this initiative aims to harmonize treatment standards and enhance expert collaboration across the region.
“These projects underscore Thailand’s leadership in advancing traditional medicine within ASEAN’s healthcare systems,” said Surakameth Mahasirimongkol, Director of the Technical and Planning Division at DTAM. “By exporting home-grown knowledge and innovations, Thailand is ensuring long-term well-being for ASEAN communities.”
